Mapping Roads on Santa Catalina Island
There was a need to make a new road map for Santa Catalina Island. Existing maps were not only incomplete; at times, they were wrong, often showing the same road in different locations as much as a mile apart. At the tie of Los Angeles County's Fire, the Sheriff departments were sure the use of these incorrect maps would send rescue crews to wrong locations, risking human life and property damage. Thus, the Santa Catalina Island Conservancy (SCICo) and the city of Avalon decided to create an accurate, comprehensive map that would enable emergency response crews to do their jobs effectively. For this purpose, they used a DGPS receiver and software program to map 240 miles of the island's interior roads with an accuracy of within 1 m. SCICo later converted the GPS data to GIS data for their road development and maintenance plan.
The Runway Management System of the Incheon International Airport
The Incheon International Airport needed a maintenance and management system for the surface including the runway. The Airport Management Authority decided to introduce the advanced DGPS equipment to implement an effective management system in order to avoid the inefficiency of the traditional methods.
DGPS receiver was mounted on the vehicles checking for signs of abnormality on the surface to receive error correction broadcast in real-time from the Palmi-do DGPS Reference Station and record the exact location of the abnormality and ensure highly efficient repair and maintenance.
