About the Chain

Overview of Loran-C

  • A type of LOng RAnge Navigation system
  • It consists of one master station and two to four secondary stations.
  • It measures positioning through the accurate arrival time interval of pulse radio wave between the master and secondary stations based on the principle of a hyperbola.
  • With a wide range of application and high accuracy, it is used for the navigation of vessels, aircraft, and motor vehicles.
  • It is synchronized with the coordinated universal time (UTC) and is used as the time standard.
