Agriculture Support System

It is used to calculate the best location to apply fertilizer when farming.

How to Use

In the commercial aspect, using compost and growing abundant crops reduce costs for producers and have environmental benefits. However, reckless use of compost can cause contamination of underground water sources. In this regard, the accuracy of applying compost in appropriate locations is important to increase production volume of crops.

In order to solve this problem, Jim Schepers, a researcher affiliated with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and a researcher at a soil and water preservation research center in Lincoln, Nebraska, used the DGNSS system to generate a map. This is a system that collects accurate real-time geographic data and has the capability of applying a geographic information system.

First, Schepers used the DGNSS system to create a grid and map of a specific area. He then identified regions with low crop production levels by applying crop yield data with the soil's productivity figures. He could acquire data on regions that need compost by identifying the locations of the applicable regions.
