Creating a Roadmap for Santa Catalina Island

Santa Catalina Island needed a new map.The existing maps were not only incomplete but also inaccurate, and sometimes, the real location of the road was off by one mile. During a fire in Los Angeles, the state administration was convinced that the time wasted by firefighters because of a wrong map was a risk factor for the loss of people’s lives and properties.

The Santa Catalina Island Conservancy (SCICo) and the city of Avalon decided to create an accurate, easy-to-understand map that helps emergency rescuers perform their job effectively. They used DGNSS receivers and a program as tools to perform this project. As a result, they successfully created a map consisting of 240 miles of city roads with accuracy of less than one meter. The committee converts the measured GNSS data into GIS data and uses it for road development and maintenance planning.

Runway Management System at Incheon International Airport

A maintenance and management system were needed for the road surface in Incheon International Airport, including the runways. To achieve this, the airport's management corporation chose to implement the DGNSS equipment. This is a cutting-edge equipment that supports an effective management system, breaking away from the inefficiency of the conventional method.

Vehicles that inspect defects on the road surface are equipped with DGNSS receivers. This enables them to receive real-time error correction information from the Palmido DGNSS Reference Station near the airport and record accurate locations of abnormal areas; thus resulting in high repair, maintenance and management efficiency.
